For 2009, the Pontiac G5 swaps out the GT's 2.4L engine for the base trim's 2.2L inline-4, which slightly improves power and fuel economy, while Bluetooth and auxiliary-input jack for stereo are now also available. Pontiac G5 standard features include a 2.2L inline-4 engine that generates 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque with front-wheel drive commanded by a five-speed manual transmission; a four-speed automatic transmission is optional. The base G5 XFE with the five-speed manual transmission and 15-inch wheels achieves an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg city/37 mpg hwy and 30 mpg combined. The Pontiac G5 GT with 17-inch wheels gets decreased fuel economy at 23 mpg city/32 mpg hwy and 26 mpg combined. Standard safety equipment includes full-length side curtain airbags and a new passenger-sensing system that improves front airbag deployment. Safety feature options include four-wheel antilock disc brakes on the base Pontiac G5 but that is standard on the GT. The 2-door coupe accommodates up to five passengers.
